IMPORTANT EXPERIENCES

  • Took Poynter Institute course on Balanced and Bias-Free Reporting with Al Tompkins through ESPN

  • Took Your Future in Sportswriting course created and led by Bay Area News Group San Francisco Giants reporter Kerry Crowley, where each lesson was taught and facilitated with renowned sports media professionals

  • Participated in EJ’s Journalism School on Turner Sports’ Ernie Johnson’s Twitter account over the pandemic, with the likes of James Brown, Adam Schefter, Maria Taylor, David Aldridge, Andrea Kramer, Jon Weiner, and other titans of sports broadcasting

  • Participated at NBC University career progression workshop at NAHJ 2019 in Miami, objectively one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As someone of Latinx descent (my mother is Argentine), I realized how important it was for a journalist who is bilingual to be able to connect with the Hispanic community in the United States, particularly given their focus in modern news coverage with immigration legislation and the Border Wall discussion, etc. This workshop specifically had influential Latinx journalists like Mariana Atencio, José Díaz Balart and Migdalia Figueroa speak about their work for NBC affiliates and how to best utilize your skills to have an impact journalistically. I also got to work directly with Amy Morris, VP of News for NBC4 New York, and Geraldine Cols Azócar, then-Digital Video Producer for NBC News, on writing scripts for broadcast, editing content properly to tell a story and do it journalistic diligence, among other career insights. It was honestly one of the most fulfilling and engaging experiences I’ve had since entering the world of journalism, and it changed my life.

  • Participated in a seminar with unscripted television production house High Noon Entertainment in October 2018. Through this seminar with CEO Jim Berger and Development Producer Julie Plant, both graduates of the Missouri School of Journalism, I learned a great deal about nonfiction television and the processes that take place to execute a television series. I also learned about the great deal of overlap that exists betwee Reality TV and journalism, as crazy as that sounds. I was inspired by this seminar and workshop to further adapt the multimedia skills I’ve acquired as a journalist to the world of entertainment and feature-style television.
